Gordon Ramsay said true Italian cooking is about using a few fresh ingredients and I'm all about cooking that uses a few fresh ingredients so I tried making two things over the weekend: bruschetta and pizza.

Bruschetta was good. I love anything with tomato and basil. Recipe asked for red wine vinegar, which I had, but I think it would have been really good with balsamic vinegar, too (is this heretical?).

The pizza was more involved than I was expecting but it was fun to make. I made the dough and got flour everywhere. The dough uses a lot of oil, huh. Then I waited around for hours for it to rise (it was a super cold weekend and our house doesn't get much sunlight). Then I rolled it into shape with a bottle of wine (I saw it in a youtube and I didn't want to fork out for a rolling pin). Then I added some toppings and put it into the oven to ignore for ten minutes. Next time I will add the basil after it comes out of the oven (was this obvious?). The heat took away all the flavour of the basil. I still have enough dough left over for one more pizza so I will try again tomorrow.

I also found out we have a whetstone so I watched some youtubes and then I sharpened all the knives in the house.
