Yesterday I went to see Single Asian Female. I remember the first time I went to see theatre, I had no idea what to do, what was expected, or where to go. I still wonder why I never went to see theatre before coming to Melbourne (I lie; it is the same reason I still do not like to eat at restaurants). The first time I went to see theatre, a group of schoolkids was there, and it made me remember the time we went on a school excursion to the behind-the-scenes at Woolworths.
The play was excellent. The physical fight between the sisters towards the end was so intense for me and so distressing to watch that I started to fear the play had stopped being a play. The whole room was silent.
