Apr. 19th, 2018 03:34 pmI've moved. Things I've noticed:
I do not like city driving (I already knew this). Driving down the coast to Sydney and then inland to Melbourne was long but fun. Lots of roadworks going on. Lots of roadkill. I saw an echidna ambling along the side of the road.
The tolls in Brisbane cost me AUD4. The tolls in Sydney cost me AUD6. The tolls in Melbourne cost me AUD18.
I wish people wouldn't overtake and then pull in right in front. I wish people wouldn't follow so closely behind.
I discovered when walking past them accidentally that the Carlton Baths are not a sauna but a swimming pool and gym.
The weather here is cold enough that the leaves change.
There are birdsongs that I can't recognise and birds that I can't name.
Delivery from Korean marts takes a little bit longer and the minimum spend is a little bit more (Brisbane: same day, spending AUD50; Melbourne: next day, spending AUD120).
There are a lot of Brisbane people in Melbourne. My flatmates are both from Brisbane. The person who I bought a bookcase from was from Brisbane.
Pedestrians will sometimes make a face at drivers or hit the driver's car if the driver stops on a crossing.
I don't know where anything is and I'm still getting used to my phone's interpretation of google maps so I will walk by or around the things I'm looking for (Queen Victoria shopping centre. I missed it because I thought QV was something else). Sometimes I can't find them at all because I can't remember the shop name or where it is but just have a general memory that it's in the city (a particular souvenir shop).
I thought Melbourne was like Brisbane in that half of the city was south of the river but south of the Yarra is just ocean.
Seems like an alright place to live.
